The gathering was a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and was graced by the empowering words of Uju Okonkwo, whose speech resonated with the strength and courage within every individual. With the invaluable assistance of Farva Javaid, who bridged the language barrier through translation from English to Urdu, Uju’s message of self-belief and determination was made accessible to all attendees.
Uju Okonkwo, the main speaker, shared profound insights into the essence of planning and the power of a positive attitude. She introduced the SMART principle—Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Time-bound—as a guide for setting and achieving goals. Uju stressed the importance of having a plan that is not just a distant dream but a realistic path towards achievement. “Embrace your journey with courage and know that your strength is limitless,” Uju passionately conveyed, encouraging every individual to protect and nurture their minds against the negativity that may surround them.
Adding a deeply personal dimension to the event, Uzma, a survivor supported by Contento Social Homes, shared her inspiring journey from a place of vulnerability to one of empowerment and advocacy. Arriving without the ability to speak English and lacking formal education, Uzma’s transformation is a powerful testament to the support and opportunities provided by Contento Social Homes. She has acquired qualifications in mental health, equality, diversity, and more, exemplifying the incredible potential for growth and change. Uzma’s current roles as a volunteer with the police and WAITS organisation, and her leadership within the SEEKERS Board, underscore her commitment to supporting others who have faced similar challenges.
