A Night Focused on Impact and Partnership

The evening opened with arrival and registration as guests were welcomed into an atmosphere that combined purpose, celebration and generosity. Conversations filled the room as supporters connected around the mission of expanding safe accommodation for women and children escaping domestic abuse.

The programme was hosted by Nevel Tshuma and Tameena Zafar, who guided the evening with warmth and energy while keeping the focus firmly on the impact of the organisation’s work.

Following the welcome and introduction, the audience heard a departmental presentation outlining the ongoing work being done to support survivors and strengthen housing pathways. A survivor board speaker also shared powerful reflections that reminded guests why the work of Contento Social Homes continues to matter deeply.

Impact Report Presentation

One of the central moments of the evening was the presentation of the Contento Social Homes Impact Report by Caroline Phansi, CEO of the organisation.

Her presentation highlighted the progress made over the past year in providing safe accommodation and support to women survivors and their children. She also spoke openly about the continued shortage of housing options and the importance of sustained partnership with donors, social investors and the wider community.

The report demonstrates both the achievements of the organisation and the growing demand for safe and stable housing for survivors.

Social Investment and Strategic Partnerships

The evening continued with a Social Investment Presentation delivered by Phil Tulba, Associate Director for Community Wealth Building.

His presentation explored the importance of long term investment, partnership and collaboration in building sustainable solutions that expand safe housing opportunities for survivors of domestic abuse.

The message resonated strongly with the audience, reinforcing the role that social investment and partnerships play in delivering lasting impact.

A Keynote Address on Leadership and Impact

Guests then heard the keynote address from Dr Vongai Nyahunzvi, Founder and Managing Partner of Equinexus Partners.

Her remarks reflected on leadership, empowerment and the importance of collaborative approaches when addressing social challenges. The keynote provided both inspiration and practical insight into how organisations and partners can work together to create stronger outcomes for vulnerable communities.

Supporting The Haven in Zimbabwe

A particularly meaningful moment came during a video contribution from The Haven, a refuge partner based in Zimbabwe that provides accommodation to women survivors of domestic abuse and their children.

Funds raised during the evening will support the continued work of The Haven in offering safety, shelter and support to women and families seeking refuge from violence.

The connection between the organisations highlighted the global importance of supporting survivors and strengthening safe housing options.

Fundraising Auction and Community Generosity

The evening also featured an online fundraising auction run by Nkosi Phansi, which brought a sense of excitement and generosity to the room.

Guests actively participated by donating and placing bids, helping raise additional funds for the cause. The auction demonstrated the strong community support behind the work of Contento Social Homes and its partners.

An Evening of Celebration and Connection

Beyond the presentations and fundraising, the dinner itself created a memorable experience for everyone attending.

The food was excellent, conversations flowed easily and the atmosphere reflected the spirit of partnership that made the event possible. Guests included survivors, staff members, managing partners, board members, stakeholders and supporters who share a commitment to building safer futures for women and children.

Entertainment, award presentations and exhibition moments added to the celebratory tone of the evening while reinforcing the importance of the organisation’s mission.

By the end of the programme, there was a strong sense that the evening had achieved something meaningful. It strengthened partnerships, raised awareness, generated support and reinforced the urgency of expanding safe accommodation for survivors.
