Domestic abuse is <em>common<\/em>, <em>harmful<\/em>, and crucially, <em>preventable<\/em>. This post sets out the scale of the problem, what keeps going wrong, and the concrete changes we\u2019re calling for so women and children aren\u2019t left waiting for safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The scale: abuse is widespread, while justice lags<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An estimated <strong>2.3 million<\/strong> people (age 16+) experienced domestic abuse in the year ending March 2024, a prevalence rate of <strong>4.8%<\/strong>. The police watchdog has served notices to officers over the handling of the case. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/uk-news\/2025\/mar\/19\/husband-of-harshita-brella-found-dead-in-car-charged-with-murder?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Guardian+1<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <strong>Oldbury (West Midlands)<\/strong> this month, <strong>Lily Whitehouse<\/strong>, 19, died after being found with serious injuries; a <strong>41-year-old man<\/strong> has been <strong>charged with murder<\/strong>.
