Contento Social Homes warmly welcomes the UK Government’s recent announcement of a £53 million investment over the next four years to expand the Drive Project — a pioneering programme working intensively with high-risk domestic abuse perpetrators to change behaviour and prevent reoffending. This important commitment signals a serious step forward in tackling domestic abuse at its root.

Driving Change: Focusing on Perpetrators to Protect Survivors
The Drive Project has already shown promising results by working closely with perpetrators in partnership with police, local authorities, and domestic abuse services. This funding will enable Drive to expand into 15 new areas across England and Wales by March 2026, offering greater hope for prevention and reducing harm caused by repeated abuse.
At Contento Social Homes, we recognise that holding perpetrators accountable is essential. However, this effort must be balanced with equally urgent investment in specialist victim services, including support for survivors of sexual violence and other forms of violence against women and girls.
Supporting Survivors: A Vital Piece of the Puzzle
Baroness Newlove, the Victims’ Commissioner for England and Wales, highlighted that while prevention is vital, it is only one part of the solution. The government’s forthcoming Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Strategy must prioritise survivor support services that help women and children recover and rebuild.
Unfortunately, frontline victim services are currently under immense strain. Funding freezes and cuts to victim support organisations have forced many to reduce services or close altogether, even as demand reaches record levels. Over 14,000 survivors of sexual violence remain on waiting lists for specialist help — a situation no survivor should face.
Contento Social Homes’ Commitment: Safe Homes and Holistic Support
Our A Home For Every Woman Survivor campaign focuses on providing safe, supported housing and vital services for women and children escaping domestic abuse. We believe the best outcomes come from a comprehensive approach — one that combines perpetrator accountability with strong, well-funded victim support.
We call on policymakers and funders to ensure that funding for prevention programmes like Drive does not come at the expense of critical support services for survivors.
