A wife and her two young daughters lost their lives, and the case is now going through the legal process. Out of respect for the family and the ongoing proceedings, we won’t go into further detail here. What we can do is use this moment to talk about something bigger: the everyday reality of domestic abuse, and what needs to change.
Domestic Abuse Is More Common Than Many Realise
Domestic abuse rarely starts with the most visible signs. It often builds quietly, over time, through patterns that can be hard to notice from the outside especially to those who care most.
Some things to be aware of, whether for yourself or someone you love:
- Isolation — being cut off from friends, family, or support networks
- Control — a partner monitoring finances, movements, or communication
- Escalation — behaviour that shifts from controlling to threatening or unsafe
- Impact on children — kids witnessing tension, fear, or conflict at home, even when it’s not directed at them
Recognising these patterns early can make a real difference. No one should feel like they have to manage this alone.
