Celebrating Our Differences, Together: Diversity & Inclusion Celebration Day 2026

On 24 July 2026, sixty staff members and service users gathered at Saint Lazar’s Hall in Birmingham for a day that reminded all of us why community, culture, and connection matter. Our Diversity & Inclusion Cultural Day was a celebration in every sense: colourful, joyful, and deeply meaningful.

Setting the Scene

The day began early. By 8:00 AM, a small team was already at the office collecting decorations and supplies, and within the hour the hall was buzzing with activity as everyone pitched in to transform the space. By 10:00 AM, the venue was ready, warm, welcoming, and full of anticipation, with tea, coffee, and welcome drinks flowing as guests began to arrive.

A Morning of Colour and Culture

Once the programme officially opened, our two hosts guided everyone through a day packed with connection and discovery.

After a relaxed session of arrivals and mingling, the real magic began with our Cultural Red Carpet, easily one of the day’s standout moments. Participants proudly wore traditional attire from their own cultures and walked the red carpet, sharing the stories and significance behind each outfit. It was a powerful, moving reminder of just how rich and varied our community truly is.

From there, appetites took over at the Cultural Food Tasting, where a food station brought together dishes from British, Nigerian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Indian, Zimbabwean, and Spanish cuisines. Between bites, guests swapped questions and stories, learning about the history and traditions behind each dish, proof that food really is one of the best ways to bring people together.

Purpose, Play, and Pride

Midday brought a moment of reflection, as our CEO joined via Zoom to speak on the purpose of Diversity & Inclusion. Her ten-minute address was energetic and heartfelt, thanking everyone for making the day possible and reminding the room why this celebration matters.

The energy stayed high with a Cultural Flag Quiz, where guests tested their knowledge of national flags and the countries behind them, equal parts fun and educational.

Lunch followed, featuring Halal and African cuisine alongside a spread everyone could enjoy together, capped off with a shared dessert table. At 2:10 PM, the room came together for a respectful and unifying moment: the British National Anthem.

Music, Movement, and Meaning

The afternoon entertainment session turned the hall into a stage, with dancing, singing, and poetry from staff and service users alike. Our CEO returned to share a poem of her own, educational, motivational, and thoroughly entertaining, setting the tone for a lively, joy-filled hour.

As the day wound down, one final Meet and Mingle session gave everyone the chance to reflect, share feedback, and soak in the last moments of the celebration before staff came together to pack up and restore the venue, ready for whoever would use it next.

Why It Mattered

rom the red carpet to the food stalls, from speeches to shared songs, every part of the day contributed to something bigger than any single activity: a genuine celebration of the diverse community we’re part of. It was a day built on respect, understanding, and togetherness, and one that will stay with everyone who attended for a long time to come.

Thank you to every staff member and service user who helped make this year’s Cultural Day such a memorable success. Here’s to celebrating our differences, and each other, again next year.
