At Contento Social Homes, we understand that true healing and independence go far beyond providing a safe place to sleep. That’s why we offer a comprehensive range of services designed to empower survivors on their journey to a life free from abuse.
A Holistic Approach to Healing
While secure, welcoming housing is the cornerstone of our mission, we know support must extend much further. Based in Birmingham, Contento Social Homes offers:
- Therapy and Counselling: Our team of compassionate, trauma-informed therapists provide individual and group sessions, helping survivors process the trauma of abuse and build healthy coping mechanisms.
- Legal Aid Support: Navigating complex legal processes following abuse can be daunting. We connect survivors with legal aid specialists to ensure their rights are protected and guide them through the complexities of the justice system.
- Skills Training for Independence: Our workshops on baking, cooking, computer skills, CV writing, and job search strategies equip women with the practical tools they need for economic stability and a chance at a self-sufficient future.
- Peer Support Empowerment Groups: Led by trained facilitators, these groups offer a safe space for survivors to share experiences, build connections, and break the isolation that often follows abuse.
- Safe & Supportive Refuge: Our refuge provides a safe haven for women and children fleeing domestic abuse. With furnished rooms, up to 99 bed spaces, shared communal areas like a lounge, laundry facilities, a garden, and a car park, it’s a place to breathe and begin the process of rebuilding.
- Dedicated Support Staff: Our compassionate team is available 9am-5pm Monday to Friday, with a 24/7 out-of-hours on-call service for urgent support.

We’ve witnessed incredible transformations. One survivor arrived, unable to speak english, scarcely knowing how to use the bus system or navigate shops. Through our support, she built the confidence to travel independently, manage her finances, and hone her English skills. This drive led to employment with another support group, where she’s now a valued member of their board! Her resilience is a testament to the power of a holistic approach.
HELP AND SUPPORT: Building Independence
Our goal isn’t merely to protect, but to empower. Every client receives a needs assessment and action plan, allowing us to offer truly tailored support. We’ll work alongside you for up to 6 months, providing:
- 1:1 Support: Guidance and encouragement to boost independence and overcome any challenges you face.
- Group Sessions: Build connections and learn from others in similar circumstances.
- Collaboration with Specialists: When needed, we partner with expert agencies to address complex needs holistically.
- Moving Forward: Our support includes a strong focus on finding permanent housing solutions and transitioning smoothly to independent living. We require active participation in the program to optimise chances of success.
